In Mangareva, Maui hauls the land up from the sea, and ties the sun with tresses of hair. His father was Ataraga; his mother, Uaega. There were eight Maui: Maui-mua, Maui-muri, Maui-toere-mataroa, Tumei-hauhia, Maui-tikitiki-toga, Maui-matavaru, Maui-taha, Maui-roto.
In Hawaiian mythology, Māui is a culture hero who appears in several different genealogies. In the Ulu line he is the son of Akalana and his wife Hinakawea (Hina). This couple has four sons, Māui-mua, Māui-hope, Māui-kiikii and Māui-a-kalana.

R.Swain and Sons Rochester Kent

A big user of Leyland Roadtrains based at Rochester Kent were the old established haulage contractors R Swain and Sons. Over the previous years they had been Leyland users but in a mixed fleet of other marques. However following on from Leyland Marathons they soon standardised on the T45 Roadtrain. Secondhand purchases made up the bulk of the fleet although small numbers of new ones were purchased from the local dealer Channel Commercials. Most were 16.30 variants of the model with the Rolls Royce 300Li engine. The availability of relatively young low mileage and underworked examples from the Post Office parcels fleet at a good saving in price compared to new was obviously a big part of this. An ex- Post Office example is seen here at the companys’ depot. With its nicely roped and sheeted load on a tandem axled trailer it presents a superb traditional image of proper road haulage. It is in the company of some of its sisters including a high-datum cabbed version to the right. I had not noticed that at the time…was this the only one?
